Judith Carter Artist Statement I’m an artist and teacher who enjoys interpreting and creating visions of the scenic wonders of our world, primarily through watercolor. Plein air painting (painting on location) is one of the ways I create my work. I often take paper, pencils, and paintbrush to a location and sketch a scene. Whether a landscape painting, or botanical drawings, I’ll take a camera and photograph all the elements I have sketched; saving color, design and mood elements not only with the sketch painting, but with the camera for later translation into a bigger painting. Sometimes the sketch painting becomes the final painting. Working outside gives me the true colors, atmosphere and depth perception of the area that a camera just can’t beat. Over the years, I have evolved with my art work, but still enjoy the experiences of working from nature. Now I’m painting wildlife into my scenes. Classes in painting for students 12 and up are available at my studio in Paradise, the Paradise Recreation Center and Art Etc., Chico, California. Fall and winter classes are available at my studio in Paradise. I enjoy teaching others what I’ve enjoyed doing for the past thirty-odd years, painting. |
