Rich Lea Artist Statement Rich designs and builds one-of-a- kind pieces of furniture both on a commission and on a speculation basis. In all of his work, his goals are to design and build furniture that will: 1) perform well according to its intended function; 2) last for generations; and 3) please the eye and sense of touch.Rich‘s current inventory of saleable items (speculation pieces) may be viewed at his gallery (a separate showroom contained in his shop) at 13303 Cabin Hollow Court, Chico (343-4238; 591-9012). Several of his pieces are also on display at Vagabond Rose, 236 Main Street, Chico. Additionally, a complete portfolio of his commission and speculation pieces is shown at his web site: www.furniturebylea.com.For the last seven years, Rich has participated in the Chico Art Center’s Annual Studio Tours as well as numerous winter and summer shows held at the Center.Rich has been designing and building furniture since he was a teenager. His early efforts, based solely on self-teaching, focused on family needs. However, in 1984, Rich had the opportunity to enroll full-time in a woodworking school in western Massachusetts. This year-long school provided an intense, hands-on exposure to furniture design, construction, and finishing. Since then, Rich has worked both full- and part-time designing and building custom furniture. |
